Lovely Kitty Wonder was a fashion installation and show that was at the first ever
Hello Kitty convention held on Thursday, October 30- November 2 at the
Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. The installation was a collection of Hello Kitty inspired fashions curated by Stephiee Nyugen of
JapanLA Clothing. Below are some photographs of the fashions at the event. Hopefully, you enjoy them as much as we did.
The installation began with a striking design by Linda Frisen that invoked a modern and antique feel. The cute details of stars and Hello Kitty's bow hidden in a white transparent frame felt modern while the lower half of the dress resembled a hoop skirt out of the 1800's. The model that wore the dress at the event wore a body stocking, a lavender wig and dark lipstick that gave the hoop skirt dress a more modern feel.
The next designer
Doll Eyes had a design that looked as if it was inspired by the first Hello Kitty product: a 1975, vinyl coin purse that had Hello Kitty with a big red bow and a jar of milk. Just like the vinyl purse the dress was made of vinyl, and came with a milk jar and a big red bow.
Designs by
Abigail Greydanus were pretty in pink latex. To the left you can see a form fitting, pink latex dress with a comic book style Hello Kitty pattern. The dress on the right is a super cute, latex baby doll, lolita style dress.
Glimmerwood had enchanted Hello Kitty inspired wedding dresses that would make any bride feel adorable and beautiful. There was a white and baby blue dress accompanied by a bouquet complete with Hello Kitty's face made out of flowers. To the right you can see a full tulle gown with pink bow accents that also had a Hello Kitty floral arrangement.
Miss G Designs came with elaborate headpieces that included Hello Kitty ears and her iconic bow. There was a black and blue body suit decorated with Hello Kitty's face and spikes. The garment was accessorized with a spiky face mask that illustrated that Hello Kitty can be tough as well as cute. Her second design was a metallic, form fitting dress with an ornate head piece.
Designs by
a-morir were sleek and cat like. To the right you can see a straight, white, mini skirt paired with a white shrug embellished with a big, pink bow. It also included a rhinestone Hello Kitty mask. The mannequin to the left has a retro cat-like flair with an updo, pointy cat glasses, a belted black top with a white leather sleeve decorated with a classic red Hello Kitty bow.
The designs by
Ophelia Overdose were regal in silver and lavender. To the left is a long sheer dress with tiny Hello Kitties amidst a train of ruffles with an ornate headpiece pointed towards the sky. To the right is a revealing garment that includes a crown suitable for feline royalty.

Designs by Fiora and Creature of Habit |
Fiora's Couture Collection brought fairy like charm to the installation with gold wings and a corset top dress decorated with a golden Hello Kitty surrounded by woodland creatures. There was also a princess like gown with corset and long layers of sheer tulle. The collection was magical.
The magic continued with fairytale designs from
Creature of Habit. To the left is a red bodice with a golden scene of Hello Kitty and a bustle decorated with roses. The head piece includes twigs that resemble antlers and one bright butterfly. On the right is a green, blue and grey mermaid like dress that takes Hello Kitty lovers on a journey to the mythical depths of the sea.
Lastly, we see the creative designs from
JapanLA a clothing company and shop on Melrose that celebrates clothing inspired by kawaii, Japanese and LA pop culture. The collection included a long pink and white dress with a bodice covered in Hello Kitty faces. There was also an extravagant pink and white gown with an enormous Hello Kitty bow.
